The benefits of using essential oils in a diffuser like this Bamboo Diffuser and Humidifier are extensive. From energy boosts to calming and healing effects you can have it all. The diffused essential oil in the air is so fine it affects the limbic system of the brain that regulates emotions and hormones. Diffusers are commonly used to improve sleep, improving the natural sleeping cycle and fighting off sleeping disorders. The fine essential oil molecules are absorbed by the mucus membranes that send messages to the brain to make use of their vibration where needed.
Your body is super intelligent. Essential oils are from perfect nature. What better combination can you want?
The benefits of using essential oils are no secret anymore, but using them in a diffuser makes them fantastically effective.
Here is a short list of some of the benefits of using a diffuser.
Reduce anxiety and stress:
My personal favourite because I have often suffered from high stress and anxiety. Life can be so demanding and stressful it can affect one’s immune system in a big way. Diffusing Lavender, Neroli, Chamomile and even Frankincense. These may not only reduce stress and anxiety but also boost energy and feelings of vitality. They will cheer you up and inspire to tackle another hard working day – bringing higher achievement and attracting more beneficial opportunities. Essential oils have adaptogenic qualities giving them not only soothing qualities but energizing qualities too! Eucalyptus, Pine and Orange are wonderful ‘pick-me-up’s.
Boosts memory and concentration:
Using essential oils with a diffuser can promote mental clarity and memory. Some studies have shown how Rosemary affects memory. The increased oxygen and blood flow in the glands support mental health. Rosemary, Basil, Peppermint and Lemongrass are especially good for memory, focus and improved cognitive function. These oils can have a powerful ability to balance hormones. They directly affect the cause rather than the symptom. These are especially good for students.
Cleanses the air and creates a healthy environment:
Essential oils diffused in the air can disinfect without chemical or harmful substances. Tea Tree is wonderful to boost the immune system and at the same time cleanse the air from bacteria and viruses. Add some Basil to reduce allergens as it has anti-microbial properties. I like to use Defensor for an all round cleanse and boost on many levels. Diffusing essential oil promotes emotional health. You can create an anti-bacterial and anti-viral environment in your home to keep your family healthy and happy.
Improves sleep:
As mentioned before, using essential oils at the end of the day to wind-down is very effective. Getting those calming aromas into your body will soothe after a hard working day. Lavender and Chamomile are especially effective for this. As mentioned previously, diffusers are commonly used to help one sleep better by improving the natural sleeping cycle and fighting off sleeping disorders.
Boosts the immune system:
Antimicrobial properties in essential oils are doubled up when used with a diffuser. Boost your immune system and stimulate the production of white blood cells with clove, peppermint, eucalyptus, oregano or sweet orange. Of course my favourite is Defensor once again which I formulated to give me an all round treatment when I’m stressed or overworked. These are also effective to ward of flu and colds or other ‘unwanteds’ floating around in the air.
Reduces appetite:
There are some oils that can be used to reduce one’s appetite. Not that one wants to starve or anything but if you do want to lose weight, this is a natural way reduce your appetite and keep you from applying those munchie tendencies. Since essential oils works with the limbic system of the brain they can tone down the desire to eat significantly. Lavender, Grapefruit, Orange and Patchouli enhance energy and improve on feelings of satisfaction. No impulse eating! Yay!
Repels insects:
Where we live, flies are a huge menace at a certain time of year. They are literally everywhere! Like a plague. Diffusing essential oils can be very effective against mosquitos, moths, flies and other insects. Effective insect repellant oils are Lavender, Peppermint, Cedarwood, Lemon, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon and Geranium. I have found that a combination of Rosemary and Lavender are the most effective with keeping mosquitoes away. Diffusing essential oils is so effective you can even use them on your outdoor veranda or any outdoor space keeping insects away from your guests as well as the food.
Relieves pain:
Another biggy. When I was so stressed that I could hardly move without excruciating pain, I used the Defensor combination of essential oils on my neck and shoulders for almost instant relief! It’s amazing how effective essential oils are with pain. Disabling physical illness can sometimes prevent you from walking out that door. Peppermint is especially lovely for reducing nausea or migraine headaches. Peppermint also improves digestion, reduces allergic reactions and is an anti-depressant. Defensor is especially effective on period pains, muscle pains and even scrapes and bruises. Oregano can be used for period pains too. Not only that, Oregano is good for respiratory disorders and heartburn. Sandalwood and Defensor can be used to ease the symptoms of a sore throat and strep throat.
Eliminates odors:
Burning candles and incense can sometimes be rather dangerous. A diffuser can eliminate these dangers especially if you have small kids and pets. Your diffuser will spread the fragrance all around eliminating horrible smells even in the smallest nooks and crannies. You can experiment with different oils to create the environment that you love to have hanging around.
Saves Money:
Using a diffuser will save you money because with great health you will have fewer doctor’s visits and better productivity. Having your own diffuser is a big plus.
Keeps you cool:
Some essential oils can make you feel energized even in the heat. Cooling essential oils like Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Wintergreen can reduce the necessity for an air-conditioner.
Can continuous use have an effect on the benefits of using a diffuser?
Diffusing all day could cause one to become over sensitive to the oil you’re diffusing for that long and one can then lose some of the benefits of using a diffuser. We always recommend moderation. You may find that you won’t be able to use that oil again.
Here is a quote from Robert Tisserand, founder of the Tisserand Institute:
“Intermittent diffusion is much more effective, as well as being safer, than continuous diffusion. Intermittent means 30-60 minutes on, then 30-60 minutes off. This is because our body, especially our nervous system, habituates after this length of time.”
“With continuous diffusion, while benefits do not increase, there is evidence that the body becomes stressed in various ways. However, very low levels of diffusion – so the essential oil is barely noticeable – are fine anywhere, for any length of time.” ~ Robert Tisserand
