Simple Homemade Calendula | Put as many marigold flower heads into a dark glass jar (dark green bottles are great); “fill the jar with almond oil or safflower oil; leave in the sun for 48 hours then strain everything through a sieve – pressing and squashing the flower heads against the sieve to ensure you get all the oils out”; when done, sieve the oil through a coffee filter bag; now add new marigold heads to the strained oils in the jar and repeat the “procedure” – I do it three times, but many believe it should be done at least seven times |
Cooking Oils | In passing, make the most of herbal oils this way; use extra virgin olive oil as your carrier, instead: suitable herbs are garlic, parsley, thyme and rosemary; for these digestible oils, put them in dark green bottles in a cool dry place; the sun can make them rancid rather quickly; add a drop or two of rosemary to lengthen their shelf life; always ensure you keep them for only a month before using them; if a little older, use them on your dog pellets – dogs love them – plus minus a teaspon a day |
External use only | To apply to dogs wounds and sore bones, use comfrey leaves and ivy leaves in the same way; just remember to add a little wheatgerm to give it a longer shelf life |
