The most fascinating aspect of Rosemary essential oil – Rosmarinus officinalis verbenone, is its effect on the brain with regard to memory and concentration. Various studies have shown this to be true. When you’re feeling down, inhaling the fragrance of Rosemary oil will clear your mind and allow peace to flow. Scans have shown that inhaling rosemary increases brain wave and autonomic nervous system activity!

Therefore, the essential oil of rosemary has significantly increased the image memory compared to the control. Inhalation of the rosemary essential oil increased the memorization of numbers as well.

Rosemary Essential Oil

It is an amazing oil and is not only used to promote mental clarity, it is also used to:

  • treat Alzheimer’s
  • aid digestion
  • relieve joint and muscle pain including arthritis
  • support/promote hair growth
  • treat dandruff
  • prevent skin infections
  • detoxify the body
  • aid oral care

and my personal favourite uses are to boost the immune system and treat respiratory problems. Hence its presence in Defensor™.

Rosemary essential oil has anti-microbial and antiseptic qualities and can be effective when used to treat eczema, dermatitis, oily skin and acne. It has anti-aging properties and helps with hydration and elasticity of dry skin. It is more often used in hair products as it nourishes the scalp to eliminate dry flaky skin or dandruff, and prevent hair loss.

Rosemary essential oil strengthens the entire body and is believed to have a special healing effect on the liver, brain and heart.

In this study is shows that Smelling lavender and rosemary increases free radical scavenging activity and decreases cortisol level in saliva.

These findings clarify that lavender and rosemary enhance FRSA and decrease the stress hormone, cortisol, which protects the body from oxidative stress.

Interesting fact I didn’t know:  rosemary extracts are routinely employed as natural antioxidant to improve the shelf life of perishable foods. The European Union has approved rosemary extract (E392) as a safe and effective natural antioxidant for food preservation.

This study shows that Rosemary oil can be used to combat and manage the herpes simplex virus!

Rosemary can also be used to keep ants and spiders away. Add Rosemary with Lemon, Sweet Orange, Peppermint or Marigold oil to a Liter of water and spray it all over the house. Not only will your home smell beautiful, it will be less “creepy“! 🙂

I use Rosemary oil everywhere. Add a few drops to shampoo, face creams and body creams for that wonderful anti-aging and moisturising effect.
